The Oasis of the Source of Life
by accident and intent
the end of the end of the road
the desert
stretching stark, bare
here in the Sahara
at Oases Source De Vie
a place to
after all these years
finally complete a definitive
BUCKET OF UNUSED IDEAS
with all the current pieces
in a functioning form
ready to go
though yet to be revealed
for its a secret we have been keeping
exactly what The Bucket will be
though launch day is ever nearer
and the unveiling is ever closer
while there will be later bigger versions
yet this will be the first definitive
and so the end of the road
the Source of Life Oasis
is a fine place to arrive
by accident and intent
here
we did not know what we were looking for
yet we found it
a low-walled desert camp of stone and mud
amidst a palm grove
outside M’Hamid El Ghizlane
at the end of the road
le fin du chemin
primitive
a crude desert room of stone and mud
rough, basic, functioning, just-so, attractive
i’ve been looking for somewhere like this for decades
other, most very extremely other
and here we are
we can go no further
after here we will turn back
but after ... is some way off
for we have days
and this empty muchness is a
big something to
get used to
to enjoy
dunes and palms and bushes
sand and rock
stretching south and east
in the empty hours
of uncluttered days
at the end of the road
for, after here, its the Sahara
south and west
with the Algerian border, 20-25k away
which does not have crossings
like any, at all
while if you look on the map
its next some blue
its on a river
the Dra’a
the longest river in Morocco, 1100k
yet that river is not there
is as unbluely dusty rocky and dry as a
river can get
for this is the desert
the end of the road
and in the town-village
there are comedy murals
of camels in the desert
with an arrow pointing desert-wards
and some writing which reads
“Tomboctou 52 jour”
so its fifty-two days
caravan and camel ride
to Timbuctoo
for this
is the end of the road
an oasis
in the desert
stretching south and east
we did not know what we were looking for
at the end of the road
yet we found it
at the end of the road
and here i shall
after all these years
complete the
Bucket
